US police had shot dead 385 people

US police had shot dead 385 people during the first five months of 2015, more than two a day, according to a statement issued by the Washington Post and published on Saturday .

US police had shot dead 385 people since early 2015. This rate of nearly 2.6 people killed every day by police in the US compares to official FBI statistics on the past decade, which amounted to 1.1 . However, the authorities acknowledge that the official figures are incomplete , since reporting a shooting by the relevant services is voluntary . The United States is currently experiencing a national debate on police violence , especially against minorities , after several cases of blacks killed by white police officers .

“These shootings are grossly underreported,” said Jim Bueermann, a former police chief and president of the Washington-based Police Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving law enforcement. “We are never going to reduce the number of police shootings if we don’t begin to accurately track this information.”

According to the study of the Washington Post , US police had shot dead 385 people, half of them are white and the other half comes from the various minorities. Among the unarmed victims , two thirds are black or Hispanic . Of the 385 cases , three have led to charges against the policeman who fired the shots .
