On the one hand, Thirty-three nations gathered in the Community of Latin Americans and Caribbean States (Celac), a political forum. On the other hand twenty-eight member countries of the European Union (EU) are gathering. Overall, a third of the UN and 1.4 billion people. The EU-Celac summit, held in Brussels on Wednesday 10 and Thursday, June 11, will be judged by the number of Heads of State and Government in the family photo and results.

The Italian Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, held at the Summit: unlike that which preceded his post – the British Labour Catherine Ashton – she has made the European-Latin American relationship one of her priorities. “She has a Latin tropism” says a South American diplomat.
