Saturday, the pentagon announced that US Airstrike killed Abu Nabil, aka Wissam Najm Abd Zayd al Zubaydi, who was one of the top leaders of ISIS in Libya
The announcement confirms The Daily Beast's original report that the U.S. targeted a senior member of the group on Friday, according to two senior U.S. administration officials.
Officials confirmed that this strikes attack started before Paris Killing on Friday night but it is not linked to the event. Abu Nabil, aka Wissam Najm Abd Zayd al Zubaydi, was once a leader in Al Qaeda as well.
According to a U.S military spokesman, on Friday an American airstrike carried out by F-15 and has killed a top ISIS commander in Libya, The airstrike targeted ISIS command centre near the eastern port city of Darnah and likely killed an ISIS militant known as Abu Nabil and others.
Officials are still assessing the results of strike however, death of Nabil is likely expected in this airstrike. The official says the strike by an F-15 fighter jet took place before the Paris terrorist attacks and it has no link with the Paris shooting and it dhd been planned for some time.
The aircraft were in the air when the attacks began in France. The official was not authorised to discuss more details about the strike therefore, spoke anonymously.
It was second time tat we heard of Nabil's death news. In July it was reported that Nabil had been captured by a rival Islamist group, who hanged him.
Reports emerged of him being walked through the streets of Darnah then hanged publicly to deter locals from abandoning local militant groups and pledging allegiance to ISIS.
Nabil is thought to have been sent to Libya by ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi earlier in the summer to try to negotiate an alliance with local terror cells.
